The UCLA Center for Human Nutrition encompasses basic and clinical research facilities, and houses the UCLA Risk Factor Obesity Weight Management program. The Center aims to enhance research, education, patient care and community outreach in nutrition, with a focus on preventing and treating common chronic diseases through an integration of scientific, medical and public health approaches. Our research is focused on the role of nutrition and the naturally-occurring nutrients and phytochemicals in foods in the prevention and treatment of common diseases, and the prevention and treatment of obesity and obesity-related disease. Our research and clinical programs are supported by world-class clinical and translational research that allows us to discover new nutritional approaches to improve human health. Patients in the Nutrition Medicine Clinic receive specialized care from physicians, all Board-Certified in Nutrition, to address a variety of nutrition-related concerns. The UCLA Risk Factor Obesity Program has pioneered the multidisciplinary approach in treating the epidemic of overweight and obesity, as well as obesity-associated diseases that are not often addressed by current medical or dietetic practice. Our Clinical Research Unit is continually conducting human studies investigating the benefits of diet and supplementation on human health.
